China confirms Russian oil price cap negotiations with US

BEIJING, Jul 14 (PRIME) -- Representative for China's Commerce Ministry Shu Jueting confirmed on Thursday that Deputy Prime Minister Liu He was discussing a price cap on Russian oil with the U.S. Treasury Department head.

"On July 5, Deputy Prime Minister of China's State Council Liu He held a video call with U.S. Finance Minister Janet Yellen, during which the American side presented the idea of setting the maximum price on oil from the country," the official said at a briefing.

Shu Jueting added that the issue is very hard, because all involved sides should make efforts to reduce the tensions.

“China believes that this issue is extremely complex, the prerequisite for solving the problem is that all relevant parties should make efforts to make peace and facilitate the negotiations, as well as contribute to reducing tensions in the Ukrainian crisis, and not escalation, this is in the interests of all parties,” she said.
